Today's Share - June 24th

Posted: June 24th, 2009 @ 4:59pm

Dear Greens eaters,

Don't forget your pillow case!

Today's share should include:

1.75 pounds of sugar snap peas (eat it all, pod and all)

Farm shares should include:

About .75 pounds broccoli
A butter lettuce or red leaf lettuce or both
About .5 pounds of swiss chard

Town shares should include:

About .5 pounds kale
About .5 pounds turnips
5 radishes
A mixture of small butter lettuce and red lettuces

We wanted to title this e-mail "lettuce turnip and pea" but since it only applies to the town shares we didn't.

Treat chard like spinach, kale can be used in the pasta and raab recipe we sent out earlier this season, we still don't know what to do with turnips.  Marian Morash likes to saute them and then braise them for ten minutes in beef broth.  If you don't like raw radishes, you can cook them with the turnips.

SNAP PEA AND CARROT SALAD.  Jim made a snap pea and carrot salad this week that Diane wanted you all to know about.  He diced some carrots we had left over from last year (new crop in a few weeks), and cut some snap peas into thirds, and added a small chopped walla walla onion (they'll be here soon, too).  He marinated these all these in an Italian dressing with a handful of chopped cilantro mixed in.  We served it over a bed of lettuce with more salad dressing.

Until next week, Bon Appetit,
