Today's Share - August 11th, 2010

Dear CSA-ers,
The first CSA member to arrive at the Vancouver pick up site (with their pillow case) will receive the first Hunters' Greens CSA tomatoes of the season (half a fruit box).
Your shares should include the following:
A pound of fingerling and yellow finn potatoes, a butter lettuce (vancouver) or an assortment of red and green leaf lettuce (the farm), 3 ailsa craig onions, 3 garlic bulbs, 20 leaves of white russian kale and six leaves of dwarf blue scotch kale.
Ailsa Craig is a Scottish bred onion similar to a walla walla. More about it when we have more time to write.
ROW COVERS IN AUGUST!!?? You are probably all hankering for a little more diversity in your shares, especially in the form of some summer veggies. Well, we're trying our darnedest, but brother Sol just won't cooperate. The nights have been so cool that we've been covering our cucumbers with plastic mini green house row covers at night. They are just beginning to form tiny cucumbers. We are seeing the very first ripening tomatoes this week, and the plants are finally deciding to set a few fruit. Brenda's green beans in the share this week are also a hopeful sign. The heat wave that's forecast for this weekend may be just what the green doctor ordered. Keep your fingers crossed.
Until next week, bon appetit.
