Season update/winter shares

Posted: September 30th, 2009 @ 4:22pm

Dear CSA Members,

Apologies for the poor e-mail communication the last few weeks.  We kind of lose steam this time of year.  Also Ruby, the seperation anxious hound, doesn't like us to go to the computer in the basment and leave her alone on the first floor.

Just a reminder that the season runs through the 14th of October this year.  Also, there are still some winter shares available for $100, which we plan to have ready the week-end of November 14.  We call it a winter storage vegetable share, because many of the winter vegetables will store for much of the winter.  Rather than making several deliveries, we compress the share into one pick up at the farm.  Members will have some choice about how much of which vegetables they want.  We have several types of winter squash/pumpkins that are maturing well.  We should have an abundant supply of four varieties of potatoes.  The collards and kale plants are very strong this year and should produce an abundance into November and beyond.  We made late summer plantings of brussels sprouts, rutabagas, parsnips, leeks and daikon radishes.  Hopefully these will all mature in time.  There should be some carrots and a few storable onions.

To sign up for the winter share, you can begin by giving us a heads up that you want to participate, then send us a check when your finances allow it.  If it will be a few weeks, just let us know when we should expect it.

Well, I hear Ruby barking an alarm that there are no human companions upstairs.  Got to go.

Jim
